How to compare Hobart tours
Most of Hobart's best-known trips can be done on your own or with a guide. A fare, an entry ticket, a national park pass and a guided tour are four different things. A tour price may cover one of them, several of them or none. Before you compare listings, decide what you still need to pay for separately.
The table below gives the 2026 costs of doing each trip yourself. They are entry and fare prices, not the price of a full guided day. Tour operators set their own prices, and the live listings further down show what each one includes. All prices are in Australian dollars (A$).

Details that change the price
Six points to check against any listing.
The mountain shuttle
The Explorer Pass costs A$55 for adults aged 17 and over, A$50 for students and seniors, and A$30 for ages 6 to 16. It is a round trip of 2.5 hours with 30 minutes at the summit, and booking ahead is required. The shuttle leaves from 4 Elizabeth Street, opposite the Tourist Information office. Departures are listed at 09:30, 11:00, 12:30 and 14:00, and one page adds 15:30 from October to April, so confirm the time when you book. It does not run on Christmas Day.
Mountain guide →Bruny Island by car
The ferry fare is charged per vehicle, and passengers including the driver travel free. The Regular fare for a car under 6 m is A$58.60 return until 30 November 2026 and A$67.30 from December to April. Buying a ticket early does not reserve a particular departure, and queues are possible.
Bruny Island guide →Port Arthur and the evening tour
The general admission ticket includes a 20-minute harbour cruise and short guide talks. The Ghost Tour lasts 90 minutes, runs Wednesday to Sunday at 18:00 and 20:00, and costs A$35 for adults and A$18 for children, with no separate day ticket needed. The Isle of the Dead package, which includes general admission, costs A$85 for adults.
Port Arthur guide →Bonorong at night
The shared Night Tour lasts 2.5 hours and starts between 17:15 and 18:00, depending on the season. Adults aged 16 and over pay A$174.50, children aged 3 to 15 pay A$87.50 and under-3s are free. General admission is included, and children under 16 must come with a full-paying adult. The sanctuary can arrange a transfer, so ask about the extra cost.
Bonorong guide →Maria Island from Hobart
There is no direct Hobart to Maria Island ferry ticket. The ferry runs from Triabunna. The operator's product list also shows a separate shuttle from Brooke Street, and the ferry is not part of it. Add the Parks Pass, and bring food and water.
Maria Island guide →Stops on the Tasman Peninsula
The Port Arthur operator names Eaglehawk Neck, the Tessellated Pavement, the Blowhole, Tasman Arch and Devil's Kitchen as possible stops on the way. A guided day may include some of them. Check the access and the weather for each one before you go.
What to check before you book
The wording of a listing matters more than its headline price. Check what is included: entry, ferry, Parks Pass, meals and pick-up. Look at the meeting point and the start time, because the mountain shuttle leaves from Elizabeth Street and the MONA ferry from Brooke Street Pier. Read the cancellation terms and the age limits too.
Distances are longer than they look. Port Arthur is about 90 minutes by car and Mount Field a little over an hour. Allow time for the visit itself. Around dawn and dusk, drive slowly, because wildlife crosses the road. In parks, keep at least 2 m from wild animals and do not feed them.
Weather decides the mountain. Check conditions on the day, and see Hobart weather for the seasons. Summer runs from December to February.

Hobart tours: frequently asked questions
Which day trip is closest to Hobart?
Richmond is about 25 minutes by car and Bonorong about 30 minutes. Mount Field is a little over one hour away and Port Arthur about 90 minutes.
Do I need a Parks Pass on a guided tour?
It depends on what the listing includes. Mount Field, Maria Island and South Bruny need a pass, and a Daily Vehicle pass costs A$49.15 in 2026. The pass is not a tour ticket and does not replace a ferry, a museum ticket or a lighthouse tour.
Can I get to Maria Island from Hobart in one day?
The ferry leaves from Triabunna, not from Hobart. A shuttle from Brooke Street is listed separately, and it does not include the ferry. A same-day return costs A$59 for adults, plus a Parks Pass.
What does the Bruny Island ferry cost?
A Regular car under 6 m pays A$58.60 return until 30 November 2026 and A$67.30 from December to April. Passengers including the driver travel free. Buying ahead does not reserve a departure.
Are night tours available?
Yes. The Bonorong Night Tour lasts 2.5 hours, and the Port Arthur Ghost Tour lasts 90 minutes and runs Wednesday to Sunday. Check the current dates and prices when you book.
